First Place Moves

A St. Louis moving company that takes on houses, apartments, and offices all over the metro and out across Missouri and the Illinois Metro East, treating each job like it is going for first place. Before move day we walk the steep brick front steps, the tight brick-street parking, the downtown Washington Ave freight elevator, and the winter ice that comes with it — then one blue-ribbon crew sees you through across the St. Louis metro, box to box, on a flat rate you have in writing up front.

  • Your flat rate is in writing before move day, so a long carry up steep South City brick steps, a snowed-in driveway, or a tight Soulard brick-street parking squeeze never lands as a surprise on a meter
  • Licensed by the Missouri Division of Motor Carrier Services for in-Missouri moves, with US DOT and MC authority for interstate hauls and Illinois Commerce Commission authority for the Metro East, carrying $1M cargo coverage on every move
  • Every job runs on our own trucks with our own trained, bilingual W-2 crew. We never subcontract your move or hand it off to a stranger.

Why St. Louis Trusts Us With The Move

What Sets Our Crew Apart

A Flat Rate On Paper

Your number is set in writing days ahead of move day. The tricky part of a St. Louis job — a flight of steep brick stoop steps, a long Clayton high-rise carry, a downtown loft COI — is built into that figure up front, never sprung on you once the truck is half-loaded.

Insured To $1M

Licensed by the Missouri Division of Motor Carrier Services for moves inside Missouri, with US DOT and MC authority interstate and Illinois Commerce Commission authority across the Metro East, and $1 million in cargo coverage behind every move.

One Crew, Start To Finish

The same trained, background-checked, bilingual W-2 crew loads you out and unloads you in, all on our own trucks. Day labor never touches a single box, and the hands that carry your things down also set them down right in your new place.

We Know St. Louis Streets

Narrow brick streets in Soulard, third-floor two-family walk-ups in Tower Grove and Shaw, and downtown loft freight-elevator windows on Washington Ave throw a crew that doesn’t live here. We size up the carry, the truck, and the parking around your block first, so a one-way South City street or an icy Webster Groves driveway never turns the day into a scramble.

Winter-Ready, Year-Round Ready

St. Louis throws all four seasons at a move — an ice storm in January, a tornado-season downpour in spring, a 95-degree August. We salt and tarp the steps, pad the doorways, and keep the load dry, and a Clayton tower COI or a downtown dock window is ours to line up too. You get an arrival window plus a call the moment the truck rolls out of the yard.

A Name St. Louis Trusts

Five-star ratings from families, renters, and offices from the Central West End out to Chesterfield, earned with careful hands, one honest flat rate, and a move day that runs to plan from the first box to the last.

What Our Crew Handles

Local Moving

We carry houses, condos, and rentals across the St. Louis city limits, the county, and the Metro East, settling the truck size and the curb-side parking before the date so the figure you sign holds all day.

Learn More

Long-Distance

Headed up I-55 to Chicago, out I-70 to Kansas City, or south toward Memphis? The Donnie or Andre crew that lifts your boxes here rides along the whole haul and sets them down at the far door.

Learn More

Residential & House

A whole house gets padded, shrink-wrapped, and walked out to the truck, with a chief checking the staircase, the porch, and the alley access on a South City four-family before a single dolly comes off.

Learn More

Apartment & Condo

Central West End high-rises, Loop walk-ups three flights over a storefront, and whatever certificate of insurance a downtown loft management requires upfront all fit inside one booked appointment.

Full-Service Packing

We bring the boxes, the paper, the tape, and the wardrobe cartons to your door, then box the kitchen, the closets, and the breakables ourselves until every room is sealed and labeled ahead of lifting day.

Piano & Specialty

Uprights, baby grands, and the heavy gun safe that came with the basement get strapped, blanketed, and walked down a Lafayette Square stoop by a crew that muscles real weight week in and week out.

Four Simple Steps

From Quote To New Place

Send Your Details

Send the two ZIP codes, your target date, the size of the job, and the access on each end — steps, elevator, parking. A flat-rate number lands back with you, usually inside the hour.

Approve The Rate

Give the flat rate a yes and the date is yours. Most St. Louis moves hold the slot with no deposit at all, so booking early costs you nothing.

We Pad, Wrap & Load

Our movers show up when they said they would, blanket the furniture, wrap what is breakable, belt it onto dollies, and load in an order built around the carry path, the elevator slot, and the parking we lined up in advance.

The Final Stretch

The same crew carries everything in, puts the furniture back together, and sets each piece exactly where you want it. The brick-step carries, the tight Soulard turns, and the downtown loft COI are ours to sort out, never yours.

We do not put anything on the calendar until you are holding a written quote. Treat the ranges below as a floor; the actual number depends on the size of the move, the access at both ends, and the distance.

Read these as the floor your number builds from, and most local jobs book with nothing down. The trickier parts — a long brick-step carry, an icy driveway, a downtown loft COI or a tight brick-street parking plan — all get priced up front before move day. Moving Questions

What does a move cost in St. Louis?
Two clean ways to price it, and Gina walks you through both. By the hour it is $115 for a two-mover crew and truck, $155 for three, and $205 for four, and the clock starts when we reach your door, not at the yard. When the job is clear up front we lock one flat rate by home size instead — a studio runs about $360 to $590, a one-bedroom $590 to $980, a two-bedroom $980 to $1,680, a three-bedroom $1,680 to $2,780, and a four-bedroom $2,780 to $4,380. Tell us the pickup, the drop-off, the front steps or elevator on each end, and how the parking reads, and we hand you a written figure — the rate we quote anywhere across the St. Louis metro is the rate you settle on move day, blue-ribbon and on budget.
Is First Place Moves licensed and insured?
Yes. We are licensed by the Missouri Division of Motor Carrier Services for household moves anywhere in the state, carry US DOT and MC authority for interstate runs, and hold Illinois Commerce Commission authority for the Metro East, so a Clayton job and a haul over to Chicago both ride on proper paperwork. Every move carries $1 million in cargo coverage, and we send our credentials or a Certificate of Insurance straight to a Washington Ave loft, a Clayton high-rise, or any building management or HOA that needs one on file before the date.
What does your full-service move actually cover?
The whole job, start to finish, not just the truck ride. Our crew pads and shrink-wraps the furniture, breaks down bed frames and tables, and lays floor and doorway protection before anything leaves the house. Want it all handled? We bring the boxes, paper, and tape and pack the place for you, full or partial. Local or long-distance, a home or an office, with packing or storage on either end — one First Place crew runs the same blue-ribbon routine on every piece, pianos and gun safes right alongside the boxes, so you are never chasing three different vendors on move day.
How far out should I book the crew?
Saturdays and the last week of the month fill up first, so allow two or three weeks of lead time on those, and a touch more when a Washington Ave loft or a Clayton high-rise has to reserve a freight-elevator window. Weekdays and mid-month dates often open up on just a few days’ notice, and when a truck is sitting free we are happy to take last-minute or same-day work. Call (888) 711-4778 and we will tell you straight what is still on the board.
Do you take a deposit up front?
Most local St. Louis moves take nothing down — a quick confirmation call the day before is all we need. Long-haul interstate jobs and the busiest Saturday dates hold the slot with a small refundable deposit, and every dollar of it comes right off your final balance.
Where does your crew move?
St. Louis and right across the metro — Clayton, Kirkwood, Webster Groves, Chesterfield, Ballwin, Florissant, University City, Maplewood, St. Charles, O’Fallon, and the rest of St. Louis County, St. Charles County, and the Illinois Metro East in between. We run I-64, I-44, I-70, I-55, and I-270 every day, handling everything from a Tower Grove studio to a brick walk-up with steep front steps in South City, and we head out across Missouri, Illinois, and beyond on the long hauls on a regular basis.
Do you handle packing, or just the loading?
Either one, your call. Plenty of folks box up their own things and just want the muscle and the truck, and that works fine — we roll up, load, drive, and unload. Rather hand the whole thing off? We bring the boxes, paper, and tape and do a full or partial pack: kitchens, closets, artwork, and the fragile pieces that eat up the most time. Let us know which way you are leaning when you book and we size the crew and the supplies to match.
Can you move just a few heavy items and leave the rest to us?
Of course — it is one of our most common calls. Lots of St. Louis customers book us for the big, awkward pieces only — a sectional, an armoire, a treadmill, a piano, a gun safe — and box up the rest themselves. We show up, pad and wrap each piece, carry it down the front steps or through the elevator, and set it back down right where you want it at the far end. Your written quote covers exactly what you asked for and not one thing more.
Do stairs, a long carry, or parking change the price?
They can, and you hear about it before move day, never at the curb. A long haul from the truck, a tight hallway, or the steep front steps on a Soulard brick walk-up adds time on an hourly job or a set surcharge on a flat-rate one, and we spell it out in the written quote up front. When street parking is tight on a Lafayette Square block, we line up the spaces with the city ahead of time so the truck sits at your door, not three blocks down; we go over all of it with you beforehand so nothing catches you off guard on the day.
How do you handle a brick walk-up, a student place, or a high-rise?
Every one gets its own plan. For a Soulard brick townhouse with steep front steps or a Central West End walk-up near SLU we map the access, the turns, and the tight doorways ahead of time and bring the boards and straps to take a narrow staircase without scuffing a wall. For a Washington Ave loft or a Clayton high-rise we call building management before the date, reserve the freight elevator and the dock window, and send over the Certificate of Insurance the building keeps on file. Either way we square away the street parking in advance so the carry stays short.
Do you offer storage if my dates do not line up?
We do. When the new place is not ready yet, your things go into a clean, secured warehouse — padded, inventoried, and waiting — and our crew brings them back out the day you say go. It comes up all the time in St. Louis when closing slips or a lease runs out before the next place opens. Tell us roughly how long you will need it when you book, and we price the storage and the redelivery up front so nothing surprises you on the back end. Month-to-month runs about $85 to $230.
What heavy specialty pieces do you move?
Because we run the whole move ourselves, the same crew, boards, and dollies take pianos, gun safes and fireproof safes, antique armoires and marble-top pieces, slate pool tables, big statuary, and oversized gym equipment right alongside the rest of the house. If it is heavy, awkward, and easy to damage, it is squarely in our lane — flag it when you book so the right gear and the right number of movers roll up ready, steep brick steps and dollies and all.
Can you provide a Certificate of Insurance for my building?
Yes, and we cut them constantly for the Washington Ave lofts, the Clayton high-rises, the condo associations around the Central West End, and the office towers downtown. Send over whatever your building management or HOA requires when you book — the coverage limits and the named parties — and we list them on the certificate well before move day, at no charge.
Do you do commercial and office moves?
We do. Offices, retail, clinics, and small-business relocations around St. Louis and the metro run on the same trained crew, just scheduled around your business — evenings and weekends so you do not lose a workday. We pad and wrap desks and conference furniture, move and reconnect what we can, label and inventory by room or department, and coordinate the elevator and dock access at both buildings so your team walks in Monday and gets right back to it.
Do you move pianos and gun safes as part of a full move?
Yes. A piano or a gun safe folds right into the rest of the job — there is no separate specialty outfit to schedule. We bring the boards, dollies, and straps, map out the front steps and doorways, and the very same crew loading the house handles the heavy piece. Give us the make and a rough weight when you book so we send the right number of movers and the right gear, and it rides the same careful way as everything else on the truck.
How does a long-distance move out of St. Louis work?
We run it on our own US DOT and MC authority with a binding written quote — not a number that balloons once the truck reaches the door. The same crew that loads your home in St. Louis rides with it the whole way, door to door — a lot of these moves follow a family heading out to Kansas City, Chicago, Nashville, or Dallas. The truck is GPS-tracked the entire route, and we never hand your belongings off to a broker, a load board, or a warehouse trailer swap.
Do you move offices, schools, and venues?
Yes. We take on offices, churches, event halls, campuses around SLU and Wash U, and small businesses across St. Louis and the metro, and we book evenings or weekends so a workday, a class, or a service never gets disrupted. Furniture rides padded and strapped, the elevator and dock access are reserved ahead of time, and the same crew places everything exactly where you want it so your people can get straight back to work.
How can I pay for the move?
Major credit and debit cards and bank transfers all work, and whoever is arranging the move — a landlord, an employer, or a relative two states away — can settle the bill remotely. You pay once the job is finished, after everything is set in place and you have walked it over with the crew chief. The total matches the figure on your written quote, so there is nothing waiting to surprise you at the curb.
What if I have to cancel or move my date?
Give us 48 hours and any deposit comes back in full. Plans shift — a closing slips, a lease date moves, a high-rise reshuffles its elevator schedule, a snowstorm rolls in — and we are not about to penalize you for it. The sooner you call, the easier it is for us to open that slot up for the next family.
Should I tip the movers?
Never required — your quote already covers the whole job. That said, the crew earns it hauling a sofa down the steep front steps of a Soulard brick walk-up or easing it through a tight Tower Grove doorway in January, and a tip is always appreciated. Most customers land somewhere around 10–20% of the move split across the crew, or a flat amount per mover. Entirely your call.
